The rather inelegant question of who will lead Apple when Steve Jobs "goes" is being bandied about virtually everywhere at the moment. Speculation about his health has prompted the rumour mill to go into overdrive with Apple seemingly doing a poor job to dampen down the feverish speculation.
It all started last month when a gaunt Mr Jobs appeared at the company's developer conference in San Francisco. There was an almost audible gasp in the auditorium when he took to the stage in jeans that were practically hanging off his thin frame. But for a short while the issue faded as the crowd went nuts over his announcement about the new 3G iPhone.
Afterwards, spokespeople at Apple said Mr Jobs was recovering from a common bug. It was no secret that he had pancreatic cancer and four years ago underwent surgery which was hailed a success.
But the topic took centre stage again this week when analysts were involved in a conference call following the company's quarterly results. Chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer said that Mr Jobs served as CEO "at the pleasure of Apple's board and has no plans to leave Apple".
Not sure if that line was borrowed from the West Wing script where the characters were constantly intoning how they "served at the pleasure of the president".
Arguably the matter might just have withered on the vine if Mr Oppenheimer had left the issue there, but he added that Mr Jobs' health was "a private matter".
That got people Twittering like mad and now the big question being asked is just how much investors and analysts should know about a top exec's health. Especially, they are suggesting, one like Steve Jobs who is such a visionary for Apple and whose success seems to be closely bound together.
You might well think that this is a lot of brouhaha for nothing, but in the world of commerce this is a big deal. Reuters news agency reports that one investor was considering adding to his $2bn fund but was hestitant because of all the talk about the Apple guru's health.
There are now reports that the "common bug" that led to the weight loss was due to a "surgical procedure" Steve Jobs had earlier in the year. And also being highlighted and bandied about by unnamed sources and unnamed friends is the story that "in recent weeks, Mr Jobs has reassured several people that he is doing well and that four years after a successful operation to treat a rare form of pancreatic cancer, he is cancer-free".
You might wonder how Apple ended up handling this bit of public relations so badly? They are, after all, regarded as masters of the art when it comes to hyping their products and controlling the "message". But it does seem they have been wrong-footed.
The debate all just underlines the $64,000 question of who really will eventually follow in Steve Jobs' footsteps? And can or should any one person be allowed to be bigger than the company he or she runs?

Land Rover previews hybrid future
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Land Rover's stand at the British Motor Show incorporated a large 'Our Planet' zone to promote the company's work on sustainability and eco-awareness.
The zone exhibited various Land Rover schemes involving conservation and humanitarian projects, as well as sustainable manufacturing and the company's highly successful CO2 offset programme.
However, it's Land Rover's new ERAD technology that will interest most avid off-roaders with an environmental conscience.
ERAD is short for Electric Rear Axle Drive and is being touted as a new form of hybrid technology by Land Rover.
The Freelander engineering prototype featuring ERAD usually drives its front wheels only, with power coming from the turbodiesel engine. In an off-road or low-grip situation an electric motor automatically comes into play to turn the rear wheels.
There should be significant gains in terms of fuel economy and Land Rover could have a production system on the road (and off) by 2010.

Definition of Mass Media
According to YourDictionary.com, the definition of Mass Media is those means of communication that reach and influence large numbers of people, especially newspapers, popular magazines, radio, and television.
In my own personal estimation, Mass Media goes along with Information and Communication Technology in this day and age so as to mold a new-fangled way of life to the majority living in this global generation.
Mass Media are those media that are created to be consumed by immense number of population worldwide and also a direct contemporary instrument of mass communication.
Nonetheless, Mass Media is considered as the fourth estate of the society as well. It is the fourth branch of the government. The voice and weapon of the people and the society as a whole.
Then again, by and large when we speak about Mass Media, we immediately perceive that these are communications media that reach the mass of people. From Audio recording and reproduction like records, tapes, cassettes, cartridges, CDs, to Broadcasting Media such as Radio, Television, Cable, to Film or Motion Pictures whether in Cinema or in DVDs, and the Digital Media, the Internet, Mobile Phones, Satellite, and ultimately the Publishing or Print Media which includes Books, Newspapers, Magazines and the run-of-the-mill marvelous Video games.
Needless to say, whatever we have in mind about Mass Media, on th whole, it is all about innovation and modernity that is continually evolving and producing ways to speed up the way humanity is subsisting.
On the whole, I consider the following as the various definitions of Mass Media. Hence, it is now your turn, I urge each and every one right now if what is your definition of Mass Media.

With all the cool technology available, it can be tempting to buy gadgets just for the sake of buying gadgets. On the other hand, some technology can really be useful. The cell phone recorder falls into this category of possibly useful and possibly just a gadget.
Do you need a recorder to capture your cell phone conversations? Most people will automatically answer a resounding no to this, but may still want such a device because they’re cool. Other people will answer yes, I definitely need one. And most people will wonder how they would use a machine like this if they had it.
If you’re considering buying a cell phone recorder, how will you use it? Keep in mind that in most areas you can legally record phone conversations, including cell phone calls, only if you disclose the recording to the other party in advance and get their permission.
If you’re planning to record phone calls so that you can recall project and discussion details and make sure you’re on the same page with a client, supervisor or employee, then recording should be fine. Very few people will object when you have a strong reason for recording the phone call.
If capturing cell phone calls is part of a plan to discredit, embarrass or otherwise harm the other party, and you’re not planning to get their permission to tape them, a cell phone recorder could cause you some serious legal problems, and possibly some jail time. In that case, you should probably reconsider your purchase.
If you sometimes make calls from your office phone and sometimes from your cell, and need to record from both locations, one device will record from both phones, so you won’t have to purchase two recorders.
