When Diana sat down with her friends at their college reunion, she heard all about their careers. One was a lawyer, one owned a business, one was a computer systems analyst. Diana left feeling frustrated and disillusioned. She chose to be a probation officer so she could help people. However, the problems she faces are overwhelming, and the rewards are few and far between.
If you work in one of the human services, you probably want to help people. That's a good reason for choosing the work you do, but it's not very specific. It's important to know what makes you want to come to work every day, especially for people in human services. We often get mixed messages from the world at large about the worth of what we do. Most of us have been told, "That must be so rewarding," or "you must have so much patience." Those comments usually mean "I don't understand why you want to work so hard for so little money," or "It must be so awful to spend your days with people who are down and out."
People who work as helpers need to be able to identify the nonmonetary rewards they get from their work. That's important because monetary rewards will always be in short supply. However, sometimes people in human services feel guilty about wanting to get self-satisfaction from their work.
Those guilty feelings are unfortunate because there's nothing wrong with wanting to like the work you do. There are many different ways to help, and some people are not equally well-suited for all of them. It makes sense to look for work that is both satisfying personally and helpful to others.
Every career has both advantages and disadvantages. Some of what you do will be rewarding, and some will be unpleasant. Each of us is unique in terms of what we find rewarding and how much reinforcement we need to feel self-satisfaction from our work. That's why it's important to know yourself well enough to pick a job that is a good fit.
One useful exercise is to make a two-column list. On one side, list all the rewards you get from your current work. On the other side, list all the disadvantages and drawbacks. Then ask yourself whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. When you do this, remember to be honest with yourself.
Remember it's okay to have selfish motives as well as unselfish ones, and it's okay to have fun while you work. It is also okay to have unselfish motives such as making people's lives a little easier. On the other hand, it is not okay to do human services because you think you should find it rewarding, or because you believe people will think you are a good person. Whatever you do, do it because you want to, not because someone else wants you to.
Remember, people who genuinely like their work and find it rewarding usually do a better job than people who do not like what they do.

You would *Laugh* at the sad pick up lines I used to use!
No seriously, some of the stuff I used to try in college is absolutely laughable... It's one of those things where you look back on yourself and shake your head. How did I ever think that would work! Things have changed though... things have changed a lot!
Just recently I was sitting back with some friends killing time with a pitcher of beer at our favorite patio bar just outside the city. A typical afternoon on a lazy Saturday. Much how we spend many of our Saturdays unwinding from the week. We had our eye on a girl sitting at another table with a friend. She was about an 8 out of 10...
Anyways... I told my buddy's I'm going over there to get her number. The usual teasing and betting whether or not I could do this, did not happen. They had been through this with me before.
I walked over and spoke with her and her friend for a minute or two, and just like I have performed in the past, she was writing her number down on a napkin in no time. In fact... they had already been approached once already, and the 3 of us were laughing together about how they had turned him down... poor bastard.
Other guys buy women drinks, try to dance with them, impress them with their friends, and try all kinds of crap for hours, night after night - and usually get nothing! I talked with her, and got her number within minutes - like I've done hundreds of times in the past. Another one down.. Easy!
The question is: What Happened? What did I say?
When I was in college, if you had of asked me if this was possible, I would have said "Yeah right... Maybe... but not for me!" But now... I do it all the time.
I'm nothing special either. I'm a regular guy... just past thirty. I'm not athletic, or especially good looking, In fact I've never been that type of guy that women ask out, or approach out of the blue.
Now though... It's not uncommon for me to be doing regular chores during the day, and get 3 or more numbers per day, and...dozens of numbers a week from good looking, interesting women... The type of women I would choose. The type of women YOU CAN choose!
I don't have any secret locations either... ok that's not Completely True!.. I do know of some places that are better than others, but in general, these techniques work best in every day places... your local coffee shop, mall, grocery store, were women are not expecting to be picked up. Their guards down in these places.
In fact.. a bar or night club can be devastating for men trying to pickup women. Every woman in the bar is expecting it, and has their guard up, and standards raised higher than ever. Without a special advantage... a guy's doomed to even try!
So how do I do this? How does a regular guy go from wishing for attention to getting phone numbers in minutes?

Credit Repair is More Than a Right, It's Your Responsibility
The majority of Americans have errors and other unverifiable information on their credit reports that could be dragging down their credit score. Odds are good that your credit score is lower than it should be. The unfortunate thing is that odds are you will be yet another one of the millions of Americans who will continue to suffer with an unfair credit score because you will do nothing to repair your credit.
Most Americans want to believe the credit reporting system works; that people earn their bad credit and there is nothing they can do about it but wait for seven years. After all, it doesn't take a genius to figure out the benefits of a good credit score when it can be the difference between paying $2,500/month and $2,000/month for the exact same house.
More likely, the reason people do not repair their credit is a mix of apathy and lack of understanding of the credit reporting system. Too many people assume the credit reporting system is some official government bureaucracy with an extensive system of checks and balances designed to ensure the safekeeping of their credit history. This couldn't be further from the truth.
The credit bureaus at the center of the credit reporting system are not official organizations. Instead, they are massive, for-profit corporations that collect personal information from your creditors and make money by selling this information in the form of your credit reports.
So now you are asking yourself, how do they ensure this information is correct? If a creditor reports something that is wrong, how do the credit bureaus make sure it doesn't end up on your credit reports?
The answer to both of these questions is: they don't. Your creditors report information, the credit bureaus record it, and for most people, the story ends there.
Nobody at the credit bureaus or in the government is going to make sure your credit reports are accurate. The way the credit reporting system is set up, there is only one person who will ever bother to check up on your credit reports - and that person is you. You are the missing, and ultimately the most important, piece of the credit reporting puzzle.
Making sure your credit score is where it should be is your responsibility and repairing your credit reports is a task you will have to initiate because no one out there will do it for you.
It is your right and your responsibility to dispute the questionable negative items in your credit reports and the sooner you start, the better. You can work to repair your credit on your own or you can enlist the help of a credit repair law firm like Lexington Law.
